Chances are, if you’ve found your way to this site, you already know the broad outlines of Idaho history. There are, after all, plenty of places where you can learn about Lewis and Clark’s exploration of the region, early European-American contact with the state’s first peoples, the mining history of the state, or pioneers’ settlement of Idaho.
Stories of Idaho showcases instead the parts of Idaho’s past outside the typical narrative—the histories that usually do not appear textbooks and museum exhibits. Most importantly, Stories of Idaho was built to showcase the perspectives of Idahoans.
Stories of Idaho eventually will comprise a series of carefully researched online exhibitions about Idaho’s past. After exploring one of these exhibits, current and former Idahoans are welcome to contribute their own stories about the exhibition topic. Visitors’ stories will be featured in a special section of each exhibit, adding breadth, depth, and color to the scholarly content.
